"Inspiration Ice Cream: Tips for Blooming Your Best" ~ (A Memoir)
AUTHOR: Jennifer Bao Yu "Precious Jade" Jue-Steuck, writing as "J.S. LONDON" ~ COVER ART & ILLUSTRATIONS by Kelly Brownlee (forthcoming)
Dedicated to Glorious You
FOR EVERYONE
WHO HAS EVER LOST ANYONE,
WHO MEANT THE WORLD TO THEM (blood-related or love-related)...
...BECAUSE THEY SPRINKLED STARDUST ON OUR SPIRITS AND LEFT FOOTPRINTS ACROSS OUR HEARTS.
From the Book's Preface...Inspiration Ice Cream
Dear Reader,
This window looking out onto Paris on your Inspiration Ice Cream book cover is a magic portal that holds a special message just for you.
Of many joys, mom shared with me her love of ice cream, great literature, and the promise of a garden, blooming hope and possibility.
Inspiration Ice Cream is a fundraiser book (inspiration memoir), and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Oxfam and to the American Cancer Society.
I hope that this book, which blossomed in memory of mom and her courageous cancer battle, will sprinkle a bit of her spirit, encouraging readers to bloom their own rich gardens, no matter where "they were planted."
Much Love,
Jennifer
P.S. Just two weeks before her first trip to Paris, mom was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer. Like many hard-working parents, mom had saved for the vacation for years and she was so excited to go on her first trip to Europe. But when her plane departed from Los Angeles for the City of Light, mom lay in the hospital dying...and in the end, our mother-daughter dream to explore dazzling Paris together never happened. If there is one thing I learned, it's this: don't delay your dreams.
"BLOOM YOUR BEST"
In Loving Memory of Janet Jue (1941-1999), an "LA Girl" who loved frogs & lizards, and who one day magically appeared at my doorstep in China -- from halfway across the world -- to take me home to sunny California to "Bloom my Best."
We traveled on the winter wind of 1979, guided by a dancing star. My Birthmother is from JIANGSU Province, China. Adopted from TAIPEI by Americans from LOS ANGELES. I have been an orphan, an immigrant, an American citizen, an illegal alien, a legal klutz, a travel writer, a Harvard grad, and (continue to be) the proud big sister of Chris, my brother (adopted from Seoul, South Korea). My dad, a football fanatic from Pasadena, was a professional photographer; my mom, an "LA girl" who loved frogs & lizards, was an artist, art teacher and poet. I grew up in the artistic enclave of Laguna Beach (Orange County), California, enveloped in the protective circle of my "Chinese aunties," many of whom were writers and most of whom were not Chinese at all! Some "aunties" had blond hair. Some spoke Chinese. Or Spanish or French. Some wrestled with ghosts from an unwritten past. But all of them were my aunties - strong, proud survivors...
Jennifer's memoir about her (adoptive) mom's ovarian cancer battle, "Inspiration Ice Cream," is a fundraiser book for Oxfam and the American Cancer Society.
